Utility Coordination Best Practices
Utility coordination is crucial to the successful planning and execution of transportation projects impacting project timelines, costs, and construction safety. To support transportation projects around the region, the IMPO convened regional stakeholders to discuss issues, research solutions, and promote best practices relating to utility coordination.
This process has resulted in a Utility Coordination Best Practices Whitepaper that examines transportation project utility coordination issues and potential solutions. This includes an analysis of the primary factors contributing to utility-related construction delays including poor communication and coordination processes, inaccurate utility information, and lack of standard policies and permitting. The whitepaper then addresses these issues by providing suggestions for improved engagement, methods for obtaining more accurate utility information, and possible means of standardizing policies, procedures, & permits.
